Standard Service is a restaurant that opened towards the end of 2016 in Rockwall, TX. They have recently moved to Heath, TX to an expansive 2 acre space with most of that being an outdoor playplace.

Standard Service is a sister restaurant to one of my all-time faves, HG Sply Co. in Dallas. I LOVE HG Sply (as previously documented on my blog) for date nights, but have never taken our kids there. I was excited to hear Standard Service was moving nearby and was going to be family friendly.

Standard Service Heath’s outdoor playspace is the perfect afternoon hangout spot for your family!

We visited in early February, after their January 29th opening, to see what you need to know before visiting!

PARKING

There is a large parking lot next to Standard Service. We were there on a busy day, and people were parking in the dirt beyond the parking lot. There is also valet available.

GAMES & ACTIVITIES

There are so many games and they are all FREE to play! They have shuffleboard, ping pong, cornhole, giant checkers, and pickle ball. And we totally played ALL of the games while we waited for our table. You’ll need to turn in your license to the games table (located near the entrance to the pickle ball court) in exchange for equipment, and can only have one game’s equipment out at a time. Our kid’s attention span lasts about as long as the flavor of Dubble Bubble gum, so we were constantly exchanging out equipment.

I get SO many compliments on my heart sunnies (pictured below) wherever I go, so here’s a link to them if you want to show up stylin’ to Standard Service.

Since the restaurant was so new, we should have anticipated the long wait for a table and our food. When the hostess told us 35-45 minutes, I thought the time would pass quickly (which it did). We had so much fun playing games, but my hubby was getting hangrier as the time went well past an hour. If you have someone in your family who gets an little unpleasant when they are hungry, have them eat a little snack BEFORE you come eat here! Haha. In all, it was a little over two hours from when we arrived and put our names on the list until we were served our food.

By this point, we were all so over waiting that there were lots of “I’M SO HUNGRY!” and “WHEN IS OUR TABLE GOING TO BE READY” and “WHAT’S TAKING SO LONG!” It was not the prettiest game of pickle ball.

Check out the massive 20ft x 10ft TV. There are comfy bean bags you can lounge in and also cabanas around the edge of the sitting area. If you have kids who are at an age where they aren’t as needy as ours (I may or may not be jealous of you for that), they can go play all the games while you sit back, relax, and have uninterrupted adult conversations. I hope to remember what that’s like again one day.

FOOD & DRINK

In the outdoor playspace, there is a bar area located near the pickle ball courts. There is also a full bar located inside the restaurant. If you are having a hard time deciding on a cocktail, they have names of drinks on scrabble tiles on the wall with the number of times that drink has been ordered. You can order based on a high performing number or low performing number. They replace poor-performing cocktails out with new recipes.

There are food trucks located on the property, if you want to grab a snack before eating at the restaurant. Or maybe your kids would rather eat from a food truck and play games the whole time.

Inside the restaurant, Standard Service’s menu consists of salads, flatbreads, nachos, soups, breakfast/brunch, sandwiches, and burgers. The kids shared a grilled chicken burger minus the cheese and spicy peppers. I had the Chicken Ranch salad, and the hubs had the Standard Deluxe Burger. I want to go back and try all their salads because they sound so good!

My son enjoyed looking at all the old photos on the wall.

The walls are panel-lined and the booths are yellow! It has a grandma’s living room feel with a modern twist.

My daughter is obviously at the stage where she wants to take pictures with me all the time. Overall it was a fun afternoon and we were happier once we finally got food in our bellies!
