The drive from Miami down to the Florida Keys has been on our Travel List for many years. When planning our most recent kid-free weekend, I thought the fall season would make for the perfect time to do the drive down to The Keys!

We flew into Ft. Lauderdale and spent our first night in Miami. Waking up with an ocean view and exploring South Beach was a great start to our trip!

After brunch, we hit the road and drove down to The Keys in one day.

I’m sure we could have stretched the 3-hour drive out, stopping more or even spending the night along the way. We were kid-free so the car ride was quite relaxing for once! I wanted to get down to Key West and spend the rest of the weekend relaxing in one spot though!

Our hotel in Key West was located in the Stock Island Marina Village. It was away from the hustle and bustle of Old Town, which we loved. Our main goal for our kid-free weekend was relaxation, and man o man did The Perry Hotel deliver! 100%

THE HOTEL

When you hear The Perry Hotel Key West, think seclusion and tranquility. With three young kids, seclusion and tranquility are hard to come by, so the hubs and I immediately fell in love with The Perry Hotel. The scene is so laid-back; you’ll never want to leave the hotel grounds.

There are water views all around, and you’ll drool over all the yachts and sail boats in the private marina.

The Perry received the CONDÉ NAST Traveller’s 2020 Readers’ Choice Award for the top 5 hotels in Florida. The hotel opened in 2017 and has won award after award since it’s opening. It’s easy to see why!

The lobby is open with high ceilings and has comfortable seating areas.

While the hotel is not located in Old Town of Key West, they offer a complimentary shuttle that runs hourly. You can catch the shuttle to Old Town easily and join the lively crazy party atmosphere of Duval Street. Then you can shuttle back to the peaceful oasis at The Perry.

The Perry Hotel has two pools – both with water/marina views. One pool is located in between Matt’s Stock Island restaurant and the Salty Oyster. This pool was closest to our room, so it’s where we chose to spend the afternoon.

The second pool is located next to The Barrel House. This pool seemed to have less people all weekend.

The Green Pineapple Boutique is located in the lobby of The Perry Hotel. It is one of three locations in Key West. The location at the hotel is a smaller version of their sister stores (one on Duval Street and the other on Petronia Street). The boutique has some Perry Hotel branded merchandise as well as super cute clothes (it was so my style!) and other gift items.

Upon arrival, you will receive a welcome glass of champagne. Always a great way for us to start off a kid-free trip! We had an easy check-in experience. James, at the front desk, was super friendly and helpful. He even remembered our names the rest of the weekend.

The hotel grounds are so clean, beautiful, and well-kept. The first night of our stay, the hubs and I had a sunset walk around the property. I would highly recommend this, not only to familiarize yourself with the property, but it’s also fun to check out all the HUGE yachts!

We found a hammock area located between Barrel House and the garden area. I made myself comfy in one and nearly fell asleep!

Great weather + amazing company + delicious drink + relaxing hammock = recipe for the perfect way to relax at the end of the day

If you’ve been to Key West before, then you know about the chickens and roosters they have walking around EVERYWHERE. There seem to be more chooks than dogs. Well, we stumbled upon a chook house at The Perry! There was even a cute little door the chickens could use to go into their pen. The roosting area was really spacious, so I’m sure heaps of chookies could fit inside. We looked for eggs, but didn’t see any.

We also came across a dog park! There was a separate area for little dogs & big dogs. The Perry Hotel is a dog friendly hotel for any breed and any size dog. They welcome pups at their outdoor dining areas of Matt’s and the Salty Oyster too! Next time we will have to bring our sweet Pomeranian, Wrigley along.

The Perry Hotel partners with many companies to offer water tours that depart just steps from the hotel. With direct ocean access, you can hop on a boat and be diving, fishing, sailing, sandbar hopping, SUPing, kayaking, or jet skiing!

THE ROOMS

The Perry Hotel has 100 guest rooms. They offer hotel rooms, studios, and suites.

We stayed in a room overlooking the marina. They offer rooms that overlook the pool and marina, if you want something a little less private or love to people watch!

Our bed was very comfortable, as was the cute chair in the corner! The room also had a safe, mini fridge, robe, and walk in shower.

My favorite part of our room was the balcony. We spent a lot of time out on the balcony watching boats come in and leave.

THE FOOD & DRINKS

The restaurants at The Perry Hotel are all dockside with water views. If you’re a seafood lover, this is the place for you with their dock-to-dish offerings!

Matt’s Stock Island is open for breakfast and dinner, with a brunch offering only on Sundays. You can bring your own catch into Matt’s for them to prepare for you!

We ate at Matt’s for breakfast after our workout Saturday morning. The aircon felt amazing. Any other time, I’d suggest sitting out on their patio.

The hubs had the banana bread pancakes and I had the eggs and potatoes. Both were so delicious!

The Salty Oyster is located next to one of the pools, offering lunch, happy hour, or early dinner.

Barrel House is located next to the pool furthest away from the main part of the hotel. Currently, they are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12noon – 10pm. It was less than a 5 minute walk from our room. The weekend we were visiting, they’d just re-opened Barrel House. We went for Happy Hour and stayed to listen to the live music!

The bartender was nice enough to put the Texas Tech football game on for us. It was a game we actually won, which is saying a lot since we haven’t won many this year! The hubs and I met at Tech when they were in their prime football years, so we are used to them winning a lot. The years following our graduation haven’t been the prettiest for Tech football.

THE FITNESS CENTER & F45

The Perry Hotel has a fitness center located on 2nd floor. It’s spacious and has a lot of equipment!

The Perry Hotel also offers F45 training in a separate building on the hotel grounds. (The F45 Training Facility is in the building on the other side of Barrel House) Here you can do a live or on-demand 45 minute HIIT workout in their facility. A trainer is there to help with any questions you have.

The hubs and I love exercising, even while on vacation. Are you the same?! We opted for the F45 Bootcamp (offered Saturday mornings on the event lawn). By “we”, I mean I signed us up without my hubby knowing. 🙂 It was a little earlier start for vacay, but my hubby put on a happy face and the bootcamp was so WORTH IT.

The instructors were awesome. The energy was something special. The workout kicked our booties, but was SO MUCH FUN.

After the bootcamp we were so full of energy and ready to take on the day!

THE DISTILLERY

*The Distillery is currently closed, but hopes to reopen soon. When we visited, the distillery was open and we participated in a tour.*

Key West Distilling offers free tours and tastings for hotel guests Thursdays – Saturdays! They are located in the last storefront on the hotel property facing the marina.

Key West Distilling distills rum, gin, vodka, and whiskey. They even bottle and label all their own products on site. The tour was very informative. We learned the process of how they distill all their spirits.

My favorite was the spiced rum – it tasted like Christmas! The gin was really good too!

We had such a wonderful weekend relaxing at The Perry Hotel Key West. We would visit this property again!
