I’ve always had a love for food. If I could pick any date night activity, it would involve food in some capacity. I grew up eating a lot differently than the way I eat today, but my love for food hasn’t changed.

These days, I do my best to choose nourishing foods that God made for us to consume. I’m not perfect by any means and still from time to time eat the not-so-good-for-you things. I aim for 80% nutritious whole foods and 20% of the other stuff. For this reason, do not be surprised to see me indulging when the hubs and I are out for our weekly date night!

My faves for Dallas healthier restaurants, in no particular order:

HG Sply Co.

Our friend’s introduced us to HG a few years ago, and we celebrated my hubby’s birthday here one year! HG is my go-to when I’m not exactly sure what I want, which is often. They have so many healthier options on their menu, including dairy free and gluten free options.

Make a reservation ahead of time if you can. Also note, their rooftop and downstairs areas have different menus. Take a look at both menus beforehand! Parking can be tricky on Greenville Ave.

Their rooftop area at their Greenville Ave location in Dallas is beautiful. It is so romantic with bulb strand lights, fireplaces, and Downtown Dallas in the background. This place makes for a great date night spot!

What to order: you HAVE to try the Honey-Garlic Brussels Sprouts. The vegan queso is a must too! But don’t go with your two sisters and order the queso, because it will magically disappear before your eyes in 3 minutes, tops. For dinner, I usually build my own bowl depending on what I’m in the mood for that night.

True Food Kitchen

My sister introduced me to True Food in Austin. I was excited to find out they have a location in Dallas (and there are SO many locations across the US!). The hubs and I have been to the Preston Center location, but there’s also a location in Plano at Legacy West.

True Food creates their menu around the anti-inflammatory diet. Their menu changes based on what foods are in season, and they believe (like we Mavericks do) that food should make you feel better! Their menu has items marked Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Friendly, where applicable.

When we have visited, it’s always been buzzing. It’s not the best place to have a quiet romantic dinner, but still makes for a great date night spot (for those of us who have been married for like 13 years and love to people watch). The parking is easy, especially the later in the evening you go.

What to order: On our last visit, my husband and I shared the Butternut Squash Pizza on a GF crust. Oh my YUM. I’ve also had the turkey burger, which I’d order again. Fo sho.

Modern Market

I stumbled upon Modern Market one day when I was out running errands with my tiniest human. They currently have six locations in DFW, so maybe there’s one close to you! We visited the Preston Hollow location.

Modern Market makes their food from scratch. They use real, whole food ingredients, which is a big deal to us Mavericks. A meal from Modern Market will be bright, full of color, and fresh.

Modern Market is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I prefer to go for breakfast or lunch, because it’s more of a healthier “fast food” place. It’s right next to a Trader Joe’s, and has ample parking.

My littlest munch helping get our deliciousness to the car.

What to order: My munchkin loved their Rosemary Sweet Potato Mash. If you like Thai flavors, the Thai Coconut Salad is delish! For brekkie, the Rocket Egg Sandwich is bomb. (and they have GF toast)

Flower Child

I ate at Flower Child for the first time with my sister, because Austin = healthy food capital of Texas and why haven’t we moved there yet? It wasn’t until at least a year later that I was walking out from my hair salon and happened to notice a Flower Child location. Accross the street from my hairdressers. In Dallas. For reals. How had I not noticed that before?!? Maybe because I only get my hair done like twice a year (sorry, Hunter, I know I should come more!) There are four locations in Dallas, so pay attention next time you go to the salon.

Flower Child has super cute decor and delicious food to keep me coming back. They use farm-fresh ingredients and can do refined sugar-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free options, which is how we eat at home! These options are also marked well on the menu. If you bring your yoga mat, they have a designated “yoga mat parking” area, which is quite clever.

Flower Child is busy during the normal lunch rush hours. Locations vary with opening hours, but they’re usually open from 11am-ish until around 8pm. The parking is easy, especially outside the lunch rush.

A Flower Child picnic – full of healthy wholesome awesomeness. The babe is trying to hog the avo hummus.

What to order: For drinks, my faves are their seasonal lemonade and kombucha. You MUST try the Avocado Hummus. Alllllll of their salads are great.

Spiral Diner & Bakery

Some friends introduced us to Spiral Diner in 2006. We moved overseas and were away from the States from 2009 until 2016. One of the first places my husband wanted to visit when we moved back to Texas in 2016 was Spiral Diner. They have three locations in DFW.

Spiral Diner is 100% plant based. They serve the normal diner comfort food – nachos, burgers, sandwiches, and burritos. Don’t be fooled though – just because it’s a vegan restaurant, their food still has flavor!

Every time we have visited Spiral Diner near Bishop Arts there has been a long wait. It’s a hip happenin’ place, and most times we have waited (even recently with our three kids!). It’s that good. The parking can be a nightmare. Say a prayer and make a wish.

Little man patiently waiting for his lunch after not-so-patiently waiting FOR-EV-ER for a table. I know, I know, it looks like there’s hardly anyone there. Trust me, it was packed.
The hubs in his happy place – at Spiral Diner with a dairy-free, plant-based Nachos Supremo.

What to order: Ummm….did you see the picture above?! Obvi the nachos. We used to visit frequently on the weekends because they had the BEST (gf/df) pancakes. I’m pretty sure they’re still serving pancakes, but I’m not sure if it’s an every weekend thing. Check their FB page for more up to date info.

If you’re new to the fueling your body with food party, I hope you try some/all of these restaurants out. Even if you aren’t aware of the impact your food plays on your health, and haven’t quite jumped on the healthy eating train yet, these are still great places to try!

Drop me a comment below with what you like to order from these places, or let me know of your favorite healthier eateries in the Dallas area!
